SEM Spark STEM Event on October 13!
The Science and Engineering Magnet National Honor Society is leading our first-ever SEM Spark STEM! STEM Outreach Program on October 13 for Middle School Girls across Northeast Texas!
The goal of our program is to encourage and motivate more girls to pursue STEM by introducing them to various STEM fields through hands-on activities, interactive lessons, and unique opportunities in the sciences.
The program is completely free but space is limited, so please sign up quickly!
The registration link is: https://semsparkstem.wordpress.com/ and is located under the sign-up tab.
There is a morning and afternoon program. Both are the same so please only sign up for one. These will be the following sessions in the program:
Engineering- Demonstrating principles of physics and engineering by constructing an apparatus designed to create drag and air resistance.
Environmental science- Making water filter using items that are part of their everyday life in order to understand how to clean up after devastating natural events.
Robotics- Learning Computer Aided Design to 3-D model objects of choice and programming EV3 to battle it against others.
Chemistry- Identifying chemical solutions and establishing basic concepts of chemical properties in order to correctly correlate chemicals to their respective reactions.
We will also have an SEM Student Panel and will discuss the SEM Admission Process as well and offer key insights to getting in SEM and being able to pursue diverse STEM opportunities.
For more information, see the attached flyer.
We are all very excited about this program and would really appreciate it if you could share it with any middle school girl you know! If you have any questions please contact SEMSparkSTEM@gmail.com
