Blog by Shelly Goel
Shelly is a Senior at the Science and Engineering Magnet High School in Dallas. Using her Gold Award project, titled “Foster Interest in STEM for Girls,” Goel aims to introduce girls to various STEM fields and spark an interest in pursuing their passions for STEM. Through her project, Goel ran courses for middle school students about basic science and engineering concepts, and ensured the program could be replicated for years to come. She recently conducted an engineering workshop for 45 middle school girls at the STEM Center of Excellence. Goel is active in her school as founder of the science fair club, and member of YWISE, CyberPatriot, and Physics Olympiad. She is the junior representative of National Honor Society, where she is taking initiatives to introduce STEM to students in her district. She will graduate in 2019. “As a recipient of this award, I will continue to motivate and inspire girls to dispel gender stereotypes and have the confidence and support system to pursue their passions for STEM.”
